EDOF: Your Contact Lens for a Seamless Transition to Presbyopia – now available in 2 proprietary materials - mark'ennovy Australia (2025)

Key Features and Benefits of BHVI EDOF Design

  • Extended Range of Clear Vision: The EDOF design provides a wider range of clear vision along the optical axis, allowing wearers to see clearly at multiple distances (near, intermediate, and far) without multiple focal points.
  • Reduction of Visual Disturbances: Traditional multifocal lenses can cause issues like ghosting and halos. The EDOF design minimises these disturbances, leading to better overall visual quality and comfort.
  • Presbyopia Correction: EDOF lenses offer a seamless transition between different viewing distances, improving the ability to perform daily tasks without the need for reading glasses.
  • Enhanced Visual Acuity: Users experience clear vision at various distances, which is particularly beneficial for activities requiring frequent focus changes, such as reading and driving.
  • Comfort: The design reduces the likelihood of visual discomfort and improves overall satisfaction with the lenses.

Product Evolution and Innovation

The first EDOF monthly lens by mark’ennovy was launched in March 2019, with the toric version available from early 2023. This custom-made silicone hydrogel lens has become a mainstay of the mark’ennovy monthly portfolio. The patented EDOF technology has also been used with great impact in their MYLO lens for myopia management.

Mark’ennovy continually strives to bring innovation to the market and to enhance their existing portfolio for the benefit of practitioners and end users. While silicone hydrogel lenses offer increased oxygen transmissibility, they may not be optimal for all wearers, particularly those with ageing eyes and associated dryness. Silicone hydrogel materials tend to collect more deposits from tears, leading to discomfort due to their lower wettability, this may also contribute to below-par visual performance for some users.

Introducing EDOF 59

To address these challenges and expand the options available for emerging and established presbyopes, mark’ennovy’s dedicated R&D team has developed EDOF 59. This new lens retains all the benefits of the BHVI EDOF design but is made from mark’ennovy’s proprietary 59% water content hydrogel material, featuring Ori:gen Technology for enhanced comfort and performance.

  • Enhanced Visual Comfort for Presbyopes

Building on the proven benefits of the BHVI EDOF design, EDOF 59 further enhances visual comfort. Its soft transition zones help reduce halos and ghosting, providing a more seamless visual experience—a key advantage for presbyopes adapting to multifocal lenses.

  • Enhanced Ocular Surface Comfort

The hydrogel material of EDOF 59 is designed to support all-day comfort and help reduce the sensation of dryness. This makes it an excellent choice for patients prone to dry eye symptoms. Clinical studies have shown a notable reduction in dry eye sensation compared to silicone hydrogel alternatives.

  • Lower Risk of Deposit Build-Up

A common concern with silicone hydrogel lenses is their tendency to accumulate tear film deposits, which can impact both comfort and vision. EDOF 59 offers a lower risk of deposit build-up, as confirmed by clinical studies. This results in a cleaner, more comfortable lens-wearing experience.

Choosing the Right Lens for Your Patients

When selecting a next-generation multifocal contact lens for an emerging presbyope, mark’ennovy offers two options with the BHVI EDOF technology, each tailored to different patient needs:

EDOF Silicone Hydrogel – Ideal for patients who require extended wearing times, benefit from higher oxygen transmission, and prefer a Class 1 UV filter for additional eye protection.

EDOF 59 – Designed for patients with less-than-optimal tear quality, those prone to dry eye symptoms, or individuals who experience discomfort with silicone hydrogel lenses due to deposit build-up.

Both lenses provide the patented BHVI EDOF technology, which mimics the eye’s natural ability to focus, providing clear vision at all distances.

Extensive Range and Customisation

All mark’ennovy monthly lenses are available in a wide range of base curves, diameters, and an extensive power range in spherical and toric corrections.
