It is the discovery of actor Park Seo-yoon (22), who made the face of a complicated and difficult teenage girl with an attractive performance.
The movie "The Lie of that Summer Day" is a 17-year-old romance that honestly captures the precarious and innocent love of a teenager. It is the first feature debut of director Son Hyun-rok, who won the International Film Critics Federation Award in the New Currents category at the Busan International Film Festival and directed a number of short films other than "Jyeongseo, Jinseo."
Park Seo-yoon appeared in dramas "Tomorrow Boy," "109 Everything," "The Movie" and "The Hummingbird" and "The Agricultural and Forestry Society." It won the acting award at the 2020 Busan International Short Film Festival. In "The Lie of That Summer Day", he impresses as Dayoung, a seventeen-year-old girl.
When asked how she felt about the release, Park Seo-yoon said, "I thought there would be no more opportunity to release it, but I'm so grateful. I'm glad that I came well until the release without much difficulty. Although there are some likes and dislikes, I think if you open the movie, Dayoung's deficiency, loneliness, and why she craves love are all in the movie. I hope a lot of people will be with "That Summer's Lie."
Regarding the process of joining "The Lie of That Summer Day," he said, "I received a scenario around the summer of 2022. I've received the director's short scenario before, but the schedule didn't fit, but this time the schedule fit. When I first read the scenario, it was difficult to intuitively recognize. But it was fun. I felt like I was reading a novel because the emotions of the characters were written in detail, and I read it at once in my seat. After reading it again, I thought I wanted to try it," he explained.
Of course, even for Park Seo-yoon, Dayoung, a teenage girl who is impulsive and in jeopardy, was not easily understood from the beginning. He, too, tried to find answers by asking questions of himself and talking to the director.
He said, "Depending on the people watching, Dayoung may be a little hateful and frustrating. But isn't he young and immature? Isn't there a time when you don't know why you behave like this in adolescence? I tried to express that feeling by thinking about it," he said.
"I didn't understand Dayoung because I didn't know why she wanted to do that until I started filming." Why are you so impulsive and why do you act like this? So I asked myself a lot of questions and I did that to the director. But I didn't want to question it when I filmed it. I tried to be sure of every action. Do you act in the script? Because I want to do this. I thought it was right, he said. "When filming, I wondered why the staff laughed at Dayoung's words. I didn't see Dayoung as a third party, but I thought about becoming that person, so I was immersed."
As for the scene that showed the dance in the play, he said, "I'm actually better at dancing," and added, "The director said I should be worse at dancing and that I should not be allowed to do something 'king', so I purposely did it more like a ddak-ee." I didn't do it on purpose," he said with a smile.
Park Seo-yoon expressed his gratitude for Choi Min-jae, who worked with him. He said, "The chemistry with Byung-hoon is also important, so I tried to get close to Min-jae even before filming," and added, "Min-jae seemed to be a person who polishes the way." I felt like someone who reached something. He didn't even show that he was tired. Even though I was standing still, I felt like a different person when I just went into the shooting. They took care of me a lot on the spot as well. I learned a lot from asking how my condition was and acting like an adult," he said.
Above all, he said, "It was my first time to lead by myself for two hours, so it was burdensome. At first, I didn't think it was burdensome, but I thought let's have fun filming and come back. However, as I filmed, I felt more pressure. Even if you do well in one scene, if you don't do well in the next, the movie will be creaking. It was a busy schedule, so I was tired because I was on set when I woke up, but when I finished, I realized that I was lacking in age and I thought I needed a lot of energy to lead by myself. Next time, I want to be ready and show you a better performance," he confessed.
How did actor Park Seo-yeon start? At first, I followed my friend who attended an acting academy and took a class for a day. That's how I ended up filming a commercial and appearing in a short film, so I've come so far.
He said, "I've met good independent films and I've come to like acting and movies more. When I shoot it, I'm worried about whether this is right or not, but when I'm looking at the screen, it's fun to try to understand the message contained in each movie, mise-en-scène, and the director's intentions. I've never really thought of another path. Sincerely, there is nothing but acting. It was just so much fun. "The movie is getting better and better, and the acting is still good and fun," he said with a smile.
The role model is actress Jeon Do-yeon. He said, "I respect Jeon Do-yeon. My favorite movie is 'Milyang' too. I was so shocked when I watched the movie. I don't think you have that experience, but it felt so real that it felt like a documentary. I thought it would be great if I could act like you," he said.
"The Lies of That Summer Day" is a work that gave me the driving force. It made me realize that I have to work harder in the future, and that I want to lower my posture humbly and work hard. I want to act properly. I will be a responsible actor. I will be an actor who can not only convey my acting but also the message of my work."
